Scottish Leather Group is an organisation which values sustainability and values it very highly indeed. It has placed it at the heart of their investment decisions, industrial practices and staff relations over a number of years.
They were looking for a way to tell this story in a better way to a wide and varied audience including key clients, suppliers and shareholders. We were delighted to be given the opportunity to work with them to help achieve this goal.
Over a 3-Year period, the loft created a range of high-impact infographics, art-directed photography and carefully constructed communications that would span three annual reports, a range of social campaigns, several slide-deck presentations and many other marketing activities.
We worked with the organisation on a ‘5-Year Plan’ to make the ‘Sustainability Report’ itself more sustainable and also created a range of other works with each of the individual companies in the organisation including Muirhead Leather and Bridge Of Weir Leather too.
This is Scottish Leather Group’s, Celebrating Sustainability…
The first project of this collaboration with Scottish Leather Group was the design of the 2016 Group Sustainability Report. The loft was asked to bring SLG’s impressive sustainability achievements to life in a way that would engage lots of different people. Simplifying complexity was important – a simple, easy-to-read infographic above shows a large reduction being achieved with Scottish Leather Group’s innovative Thermal Energy Plant.
Infographics were mixed with high-impact photographs – Scottish Leather Group’s level of water-waste was less than half the EU average.
This photographic-infographic mix above shows Sustainability being achieved in all parts of the business including with staff turnover.
The 2016 Sustainability Report was a set-piece document complete with stunning art-directed photography peppered throughout the report.
High-impact infographics were shown throughout the 2016 report – this one showcasing a reduction of C02 from 10kg/m2 to 2kg/m2 over a 12-year period.
The organisation had already won a series of awards for their ‘Sustainability’ achievements – which has since increased further. Communicated here again as an infographic timeline.
The first report’s cover was designed to mimic a piece of SLG’s leather.

A series of beautiful photographs capturing the various Scottish Leather Group plants including The Bridge Of Weir Leather and Muirhead Leather factories.
The brochure was so successful that the main infographics were re-formatted into videos and re-created as a series of mini social media campaigns.
The loft worked with Scottish Leather Group to conceive a plan to make the Annual Sustainability Report more sustainable over a 5-year period. This included the move to a completely paperless document in year 5.
The loft continued to work with Scottish Leather Group on much more minimal 2017 and 2018 reports. Seen above…
The loft was delighted to work with so many great people at Scottish Leather Group including Marketing Group Director, James Lang.
The loft also worked on a wide range of other projects for Scottish Leather Group’s sister brands including this stunning ‘Entomology’ Trend Report for Bridge Of Weir Leather. Some excellent work they do to showcase future leather trends. The loft designed and produced the high-quality sample box and swatch.
The loft also created a series of high-impact print adverts for Muirhead Leather .
